René Char (1907-1988) exhibition

The René Char exhibition has invited visitors to follow the evolution of this major 20th century poet in his relationship with the world, revealing his creative approach from 1948 to 1978. Various documents (manuscripts, books, magazines, photos, films…) from the Lausanne Cantonal and University Library archives as well as private collections have shed light on poetry, the beauty and intensity of which captivates as much as it confounds. Visitors have also shed their impressions of a distant poet, thanks to his meticulous work in compiling a collection, his attention to humble gestures, and his taste for – and practice of – the craft in the illustration of an object or the making of a book.
